Cheesy Burger Bowls
INGREDIENTS
For the Burger Meat:
- 1lb ground beef
- 2 tbsp. Botticelli Cooking Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- 1 medium yellow onion, diced
- ½ tsp. onion powder
- ½ tsp. garlic powder
- ½ tsp. paprika
- 4 slices of American cheese, or your preferred cheese
- Salt and pepper
For the bowls:
- Romaine Lettuce, thinly chopped
- Tomatoes, diced
- Pickles, diced
- Avocado, sliced
For the burger sauce:
- 1 cup mayo
- ¼ cup ketchup
- 1 whole dill pickle, diced
- ¼ tsp. garlic powder
- ¼ tsp. onion powder
- ½ tsp. paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Splash of white vinegar or pickle juice
PREPARATION
- Start with the sauce. In a medium mixing bowl, add in the sauce ingredients and stir until well combined. It’s perfect as is, but even better if it sits for 20 minutes to marry.
- In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Once hot, add the diced onion. Let cook for about 3-5 minutes or until lightly brown and translucent, stirring often ensure it all cooks evenly.
- Once, browned, add in the ground beef, and top it with the seasonings. Using a ground beef masher or the back of your spoon, begin to break the meat up into smaller chunks and mixing in the seasonings and onion. Keep stirring until well combined.
- Once the beef is fully cooked, ensure that it is sitting in a flat layer across the skillet. Place the four slices of cheese over the beef to cover the meat.
- Add a splash of water down the side of the skillet and quickly cover it with a tight-fitting lid. This will help melt the cheese quicker.
- Once melted and the water has evaporated, remove from heat to set aside.
- In your designated bowls, place first the romaine lettuce. Using a spatula, then place 1/4th of the ground beef and cheese on top of the romaine lettuce. Then add your tomatoes, pickles, avocado or any other burger toppings to your bowl.
- Lastly, drizzle your burger sauce over the bowl, serve and enjoy!
TIP:
This is a fully customizable recipe! Swap the beef for ground chicken, swap the sauce for a or tzatziki for a Mediterranean vibe, or even add an egg for a brunch burger bowl. The options are endless.
