INGREDIENTS:
- 1 pie dough, store bought or homemade Shredded mozzarella cheese
- Shredded Gruyere
- Sliced Gruyere
- Italian sausage, cooked and crumbled
- 1 small onion, thinly sliced and caramelized
- Botticelli Caramelized Onion Sauce
- Botticelli Baking Extra Virgin Olive Oil
PREPARATION:
- Preheat the oven to 450°F.
- Lightly coat the pizza dough in olive oil then quarter and shape each piece into rounds. Press and stretch the dough to get what looks like 4 mini pizzas.
- Spread a couple of spoonfuls of the caramelized onion sauce onto half of each round, leaving ½ inch around the perimeter. Sprinkle on the italian sausage, caramelized onions and shredded gruyere. Top with a heaping handful of mozzarella. Fold the other half of the dough over and pinch the ends to seal. Place on a parchment-lined sheet pan and top each calzone with a slice of gruyere.
- Bake for 10-15 minutes or until the crust has browned.
- Remove from the oven and brush on a bit of olive oil. Enjoy!
