INGREDIENTS:
For The Meatballs:
- 1 lb ground beef, 80/20
- ½ cup panko breadcrumbs
- ¼ cup grated parmesan cheese
- 1 egg
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 2 teaspoons large coarse sea salt or kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
For The Assembly:
- 1 jar Botticelli Roasted Garlic Pasta Sauce
- 2-4 Italian loaves or rolls*
- ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 2 slices provolone cheese, torn
- Butter for toasting rolls
- Fresh basil for garnish
PREPARATION:
- Preheat the oven to 400°F.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs and spices. Mix to combine and portion into 1 ½ inch balls. Roll between your palms until perfectly round and place on a parchment lined sheet pan. Bake for 18–20 minutes, or until browned and cooked through.
- Pour the roasted garlic sauce into a large sauce pan and arrange the meatballs in the sauce. Simmer for 10 minutes. Split rolls open without cutting all the way through and brush with butter. Toast for a few minutes until golden brown.
- Spoon the saucy meatballs into each roll. Top with torn provolone and shredded mozzarella. Place back in the oven and broil for 2-3 minutes until the cheese is bubbly. Garnish with fresh basil and enjoy!
- *Depending on the size of your loaves/rolls you should get 2 large or 4 smaller subs.
